For people who want real relationships, a faith that holds up on a Tuesday, and the chance to do something that actually matters where they live.

We're not asking you to attend a church. We're inviting you into a way of life — belonging, serving, and growing alongside people who are figuring it out too. It's an outreach of Tawas Area Presbyterian Church, built for people who wouldn't otherwise find themselves in a pew on Sunday.

A new community on the Sunrise Side

Who We Are

We are a community seeking God together — creating space for honest faith, deep connection, and tangible love that transforms our lives and our neighborhoods.

Our Rhythm:

One week we gather, Three weeks we serve

The Gathering Space

Worship and mission aren't two separate things here. Neither one makes sense without the other.

A shared meal, worship, music, prayer, and honest conversation about following Jesus in ordinary life. Everyone at the same table, talking with each other rather than being talked at.

The Gathering Space isn't a room — it's whatever room we're in. Sometimes that's the church. Sometimes it's a park, a shop, a barn, or somebody's back
yard. Wherever we set the table, that's the Gathering Space.

Bring your questions. Bring nothing. Both are fine.

In the Community

Hands-on mission projects, neighborhood partnerships, caring for the water and woods around us, and showing up for people who need someone in their corner.

The group decides together what the month's work will be, so it's never a project handed down from a committee. If you know a need, bring it — that's usually how one gets chosen.

This is not the follow-up to worship. It is the worship.

One Community. Two Front Doors

Spirit of the Lakes is an outreach of Tawas Area Presbyterian Church — not a replacement for it, and not a rival to it. Same congregation, same people, two different ways in. Use whichever one you'd actually walk through.

Traditional Worship

Hymns, piano, a choir, and an order of service that's been steady here for generations. It isn't changing, and it isn't meant to. If that's what feeds you, it's waiting at 10am.

Spirit of the Lakes

A monthly gathering around a table and three weeks of work in the community. Built for people who want the substance of faith without the parts of church that pushed them away.

This is new, and that’s the point.

We believe God is already at work in people who are looking for hope, purpose, and something real — long before they ever think about a church. Spirit of the Lakes exists to meet those people where they already are.

It's early. The shape of this is still being decided by the people who show up. If you'd rather help build something than inherit it finished, you're exactly who we're hoping to meet.
